As a third-year university student with strong career ambitions, I was finding it difficult to search out new Digital Marketing opportunities. I was constantly assured that the best roles were available on various job sites and that it would be a matter of time before the right job became available.
Hundreds of applications later, no luck. From this, I decided to be more proactive and try and seek out the right role for me. Enter AB.
My focus as an aspiring digital marketer and lover of all things social media is to build up a portfolio – which is why I chose to apply to AB. I was looking for a place where I could work and learn new skills, as well as make a difference.
I quickly realised from their website and the people I spoke with, that it’s real people working on real projects. The level of transparency really drew me to AB.
I knew that at AB, I would be able to get an understanding of content marketing, social media marketing experience as well as acquiring a comprehensive understanding of the finer marketing tools I perhaps wasn’t able to experience at university such as SEO and Google Analytics.
It was important for me as an inventive person to find something, which allowed me to let my creative juices flow. Being able to create content for AB’s social media channels is something that will directly allow me to make a difference and help support their ambitious marketing plans.
Being able to learn and absorb is the most important thing for most graduates in today’s job market. A degree, of course, gives you a strong foundation to work from, but it’s impossible to know the finer details you can only find out by throwing yourself in at the deep end. You need to walk before you can run, or in some graduates cases, crawl before you can walk.
I’m hoping to use my knowledge of social media at AB to create engaging content on their many different media platforms, as well as look at other platforms we could use to further our reach. It’s also a pleasure to be involved with an evolving communications agency and be able to take ownership of projects (it’s only my first day and I’ve already been involved in an engaging client meeting, learning about how to gauge different client needs and identify where the brand weaknesses are). It’s extremely exciting to be part of the AB intern scheme, as this means I can experience opportunities across the whole agency. Here’s hoping this is the first of many blogs.
